The first "Portugal Swing tournament of the EDGA Tour took place on February 13th-14th in Vilamoura. The tournament dubbed EDGA Vilamoura Open is part of the "Portugal Swing” golf event.

The EDGA Vilamoura Open launched the 2022 season of the European Disabled Golf Association and is playing an important role as one of the most important golf events of the year for golfers with disabilities.

Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course

Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course
, one of the golf courses of Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection group’s portfolio, was the golf course chosen to held the 1st tournament of the 2022 European Adapted Golf Association.

Located in the heart of Vilamoura, the Dom Pedro Pinhal golf course was originally designed by Frank Pennink and later on improved by the hand of Robert Trent Jones Sr.

The course finds itself laid out amongst impressive pine trees and set out over gently undulating terrain. The first 9 holes at the Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course serpentine through wild pine trees, while the other 9 are on open field, offering players a fabulous sea view.

The competition was open to all golfers with disabilities who hold an EDGA or WR4GD player pass and was played by 43 players from 15 countries. The event included Gross, Net and Stableford categories.

The event was officially approved by the Portuguese Golf Federation, an EDGA member. We remind you that EDGA is a non-profit association led by volunteers from the National Golf Federations of 34 countries around the world. EDGA's main mission is to raise awareness of golf as an inclusive sport and to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities through the practice of golf.

EDGA and Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection’s collaboration

In recent years, the Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection group has maintained a close collaboration with EDGA, mainly by jointly hosting the European Tour’s Portugal Masters. It was therefore with great pleasure that the Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection joined this tournament and the Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course proudly held such a prestigious golf event.

We truly believe that it is through premier events such as the EDGA that, as one of the big golf operators and with one of the largest and best portfolios of golf courses in Europe, we can actively contribute to the promotion of golf and the practice of golf to individuals with disabilities at any level, whether these disabilities are physical, intellectual or sensory.
